Guildford Borough Council get Best Value.

Guildford Borough Council logoOver the past 20 years Guildford Council Print Unit has built up a comprehensive facility almost covering the whole print cycle. To date they have managed to achieve their target of keeping the majority of the council Print contracts in-house and now boast to print over 30 million A4 products per year.

The result of increasing business meant they soon found that they were outgrowing their in-house MIS.

Mike Cheshire of Guildford Borough Print unit advised. “Our main objective was to ensure we offered the most efficient service to departments as possible. The initial step was to invest in a new MIS and so we examined the products on offer. With the advent of ‘Best Value’ it became increasingly necessary to monitor not just cost, but effectiveness and quality levels. We felt Tharstern would best support our objectives and represented excellent value with reliable back up support.”

Mike added. “Tharstern will provide us with important production information which we currently don’t have. At the moment we believe we know where our inefficiencies are but with Tharstern we will know for sure and will be able to pin-point areas for improvement.”

Future Print of Ireland order Tharstern.

Irish FlagIrish based Future Print placed an order for a 20 user system, with Tharstern Irish distributor Compu-Data, because of its user friendly style and locally provided support.Compu-Data logo

Dave Whelan, Purchasing Manager, of Future Print advised us. “We are a one-stop shop offering a wide range of services with a large base of exacting customers from diverse sectors such as Magazine, Financial ServicesFutureprint logo and Pharmaceutical through to General commercial. We already had an MIS package but required a more up-to-date system that was supported locally and capable of handling every aspect of our operation. We were instantly impressed with TharsternSQL at the first demonstration plus it had the advantage of being represented and supported in Ireland by Compu-Data.”

In October 2003 they moved into their new custom-built 60,000 sq ft. premises fully fitted with state-of-the-art equipment and technology and have more recently gone live with the Tharstern suite.

Dave added. “We have been implementing the software in phases but from running live with the system it has made a tremendous impact on our business. Our next phase is to introduce Shop Floor Data Capture and e4print but even now I would say having Tharstern, combined with our new building and comprehensive facilities, puts us in an advantageous position.”

Corners Direct Limited offers more with Tharstern.

The Corners Direct team recently completed a 12 monthCorners Direct logo project evaluating MIS and the solutions available. After reviewing 8 MIS packages they concluded Tharstern would provide the greatest benefits to the business and their customers.

Lee Nicholls, General Manager, of Corners Direct commented. “Tharstern appealed to us because all of their products are developed in-house and so knit together as one complete solution. We also felt assured by the support and ongoing back-up that was available to us.”

The Yorkshire based printers in West Bradford have a comprehensive plant with sheet fed, digital and envelope presses and have been providing general commercial full colour print for over 30 years. Having built up a wide customer base covering manufacturing, retail, financial and construction it was important that they could build on their existing services and provide additional value to such a broad range of clients.

e4print logoLee added. “We saw TharsternSQL and e4print as tools that would help us to offer a wider variety of services and on-line facilities to our customers. We also anticipate we will benefit internally with better management information to hand and in turn be able to reduce our costs, paperwork and administration time.”

Final Films premiere Tharstern.

“Since installing Tharstern it has freed up 70% of my time allowing me to focus on other areas of the business.” Advised Malcolm Owen, Operations Manager, of Final Films Limited.

The East Midlands company was established 14 years ago providing a pre-press service to the printing industry. Final Films logoHowever more recently they have expanded to offer their customers a complete print service and installed a KBA Karat digital press, only one of 7 in the UK to do so.

Malcolm explained. “We have been steadily investing in new technology to widen the scope of our services. The introduction of the Digital press meant we were able to handle more work than we anticipated and so needed an MIS to manage it. I knew of Tharstern by its good reputation and they have certainly lived up to it. Since going live I have noticed a phenomenal difference in our workflow. Although we have started as a 1 user system, having Tharstern in place has allowed me to focus on growing the business and are now planning to increase to a 4 user system in the next 3 months.”
